COURSE INFORMATION

Lifeguard candidates jumping into the water with rescue tubesAmerican Red Cross Lifeguard Training

Online and classroom program that enhances essential learning of the principals of being a lifeguard. Course begins with participation in an 8-hour online course and continues with instructor led skills and water work in the classroom. Learn rescue skills, first aid, CPR/AED, and professional lifeguard responsibilities. Successful completion of this course will certify you in:

  • Lifeguard Training
  • First Aid, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer
  • Emergency Oxygen, all for 2 years
  • Lifeguard Training with Title 22 course, will certify you in all of the above plus First Aid for Public Safety Personnel for two years and complies with California Code of Regulations.

Prerequisites

Age 15+, brick retrieval from 7 feet of water, 2-minute treading water without using hands, and pre-course swim test of 300 yards. View the YouTube video "CSD Aquatics ARC Lifeguard Prerequisite" for more information.

02052022_Lifeguard Start Academy_8651Lifeguard Start Academy 

This course is for participants interested in applying to work for Cosumnes CSD to be a lifeguard. This academy, which runs on two consecutive Saturdays, is designed to help train participants to pass the American Red Cross Lifeguard Course prerequisites. The prerequisites include a 300-yard continuous swim (freestyle or breaststroke), a 2-minute tread, and a one-minute and 40-second timed brick retrieval event in deep water. Additionally, we will provide introductions to rescue skills, first aid, CPR/AED, and professional lifeguard responsibilities.

Completing this course will better prepare you to enroll in American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, First Aid, CPR for the Professional Rescuer/AED, Emergency Oxygen, and Title 22. Sign up today.



American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Training

An advanced training for individuals to teach American Red Cross/Cosumnes Community Services District learn-to-swim lesson courses. Future instructors will learn how to use course materials, develop lesson plans, conduct classes, and evaluate students. Online coursework must be completed by first day of class.

Prerequisites

16 years of age, show American Red Cross level IV swimming ability, and completion of pre-course materials. Must provide Email address when registering.


American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Training 

Future instructor candidates will refine their skills to become demonstration ready, learn to navigate American Red Cross course materials, develop their critical eye and give feedback for correcting their potential Lifeguard participants. Pre-course Online module completion is required.

Prerequisites

Age 17 by the end of the course and proof of a current ARC Lifeguard/First Aid/CPR/AED certification brought to class.



Water Safety Classes

Cosumnes CSD will gladly certify interested parties of 5 or more individuals in the following classes:

Basic Water Rescue

This 4-hour course is designed to provide the knowledge and skills for participants to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies. This class is intended for  anyone involved in aquatic activities and for anyone who works with others around water.

Safety Training for Swim Coaches

This 6-hour course was developed in collaboration with USA Swimming to provide coaches the ability to maintain a safe swimming environment, prevent accidents, and learn to respond to injuries in water and on land.
