JR. GUARD

Jr. Guard is a fun, interactive, engaging summer camp that builds confidence, fitness, and self-esteem. For ages 11-16, each week participants enjoy games, art projects, swimming and learning skills to become a lifeguard.

Summer 2023 Schedule

Classes are held Monday thru Friday in one week sessions from 9 am - 4 pm

  • Session 1: June 5 - June 9 
  • Session 2: June 12 - June 16
  • Session 3: June 19 - June 23 
  • Session 4: June 26 - June 30
  • Session 5: July 5 - July 7 (no class July 3-4)
  • Session 6: July 10 - July 14 
  • Session 7: July 17 - July 19 
  • Session 8: July 24 - July 28

Session Themes

Campers will get the opportunity to receive training in a variety of different American Red Cross skills based on the Jr. Guard Session Information and Themes (PDF). Skills include: First Aid, Adult and Child CPR, and Basic Water Rescue. Sessions are led by Cosumnes CSD Aquatic staff and is located at the Elk Grove Aquatics Center.

Know Before You Go

Participants need to bring the following: change of clothes, snack, lunch, sunscreen, swimsuit, towel, and water.

Each participant will be tested on the first day for the following prerequisites: swim 100 yards front crawl, retrieve a 10-pound brick from 7-feet of water, and tread water for one minute.

CADET PROGRAM

Cadet Program

The Cadet Program calls for all individuals ages 14-16 who are ready to answer the challenge of becoming a Lifeguard or train like a Lifeguard. The Cadet Program is a 2-week program that will challenge you physically and mentally. Under the supervision of a Pool Manager or Lead Lifeguard, participants will undergo physical training: daily swimming, dry-land workouts, in-depth skills practice, lifeguard study hall, team building, shadow lifeguarding during recreation swim, swim lesson instructor academy, and more! This program will provide insider knowledge of what it takes to become a Cosumnes CSD Lifeguard!

Know Before You Go

Each participant will be tested on the first day for the following prerequisites: Swim 200 yards freestyle, tread water for 1 minute, and retrieve a 10 lb. brick from 7 feet of water.
