Fire Prevention Week (October 5-11, 2025)

For over 100 years, the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) has sponsored Fire Prevention Week, During the first full week in October, the NFPA offers a specific theme to promote public safety and to commemorate the Great Chicago Fire of 1871--one of the most destructive fires in our nation's history. 

Sparky the Fire Dog™ is NFPA's official mascot, and he often appears in their Fire Prevention Week messages.

For 2025, the Fire Prevention Week theme is "Charge into Fire Safety™: Lithium-Ion Batteries in Your Home."

Lithium-ion batteries are everywhere in our homes. It's important to know how to use, charge, and recycle them properly and to recognize which household products (e.g., cell phones/tablets, scooters, vacuums, etc. ) contain them.

Each year, in advance of Fire Prevention Week (FPW), Cosumnes Fire Department invites local elementary school (K-6) students to create original artwork that showcases NFPA's chosen theme. Students design educational posters to teach peers and adults about fire safety and submit their designs for a chance to win prizes. A special committee within Cosumnes Fire's Fire Prevention Division selects one Grand Prize Winner and nine Honorable Mentions. 

2025 FPW Theme: "Charge into Fire Safety™: Lithium-Ion Batteries in Your Home." 

We are looking for creative and original posters that show how to USE, STORE, OR RECYCLE lithium-ion batteries safely and responsibly in the home. Develop your unique design on the provided TEMPLATE. NFPA has some helpful tools for building good poster content:
